Video reviews

The brainchild of the Japanese company Tamron belongs to the category of universal lenses that are equally good at shooting both at wide angle and at telephoto. For a long time, the model retained the palm among all representatives of the reflex optics squad in terms of zoom ratio (18.75x), however, in 2017, this record was beaten by the Tamron 18-400mm f / 3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD.

Uniqueness

With such a huge set of focal lengths, the lens produces a good picture, which is certainly ahead of many whale lenses in quality. Actually, the zoom is intended to serve as a universal replacement for them. Adding to the uniqueness of the model is an extra 2mm of focal length at the wide end (16mm compared to 18mm on most rivals), making it possible to capture much more in the frame.

Drawing features

When shooting at wide angle, strong vignetting appears in the image, while in the range of focal lengths from 200 to 300 mm, the picture can be spoiled by visible chromatic aberrations. Both parasitic effects can be overcome at the stage of post-processing of the footage or by means of an in-camera XA correction system — they do not provide a special negative impact on the final result.

Optical stub

The compact body of the Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-5.6 Di II VC PZD Macro fits not only a piezo-ultrasonic autofocus drive (medium focus speed), but also an effective image stabilizer that allows you to take photos with a gain of up to 4 exposure levels. You can count on an acceptable result when shooting with the maximum zoom ratio even at shutter speeds of the order of 1/20-1/30 s. There is no stub only on board the Sony A-mount version, which is due to the design features of Sony DSLRs and their equipment with a matrix image stabilization system.

Universal Soldier

The lens produces the clearest picture at f / 8-11 aperture values. In the rest of the range, images tend to have soft edges. When zooming, the “trunk” extends at the lens, but the overall dimensions of the zoom still remain very compact. Tamron 16-300mm f / 3.5-5.6 Di II VC PZD Macro is compatible with most common mirror mounts (except, perhaps, Pentax K) and is able to replace a whole fleet of optics with one itself for a wide variety of purposes — from shooting architecture to taking pictures from long distances .
