— a designation found almost exclusively in USB connectors (see "For phones and computers").It is worth noting that in recent years, the USB consortium has changed the rules for designating versions of this interface twice. So, the version originally called USB 3.1 is now called USB 3.2 gen2, and earlier it was called USB 3.1 gen2. The version now known as USB 3.2 gen1 (originally USB 3.0) was officially called USB 3.1 gen1. Cables and adapters can use both new and obsolete designations; on practice, this means that the “v3.1” category in this case can include both version 3.2 gen2 and its predecessor 3.2 gen1; these details should be clarified in each case separately.
As for the capabilities of different versions, the characteristics of USB 3.2 gen1 (USB 3.0, USB 3.1 gen1) are described in detail in “v3.0” paragraph. And USB 3.2 gen1 (USB 3.1, USB 3.1 gen1) is its successor, which introduced a maximum data transfer rate doubled (to almost 10 Gbps). In addition, USB Power Delivery technology was introduced in this version, allowing for power delivery up to 100 W (although Power Delivery support is not strictly required for USB 3.2 gen1 connectors).
