— a designation that is found mainly in the HDMI interface (see "Video cable connectors").As of early 2020, v2.1 is the newest and most advanced version of this interface, also known as HDMI Ultra-High Speed. The increased bandwidth compared to its predecessors allows this interface to work with video resolutions up to 10K at 120 fps (however, standards above 8K use Display Stream Compression, which is positioned as a "visual lossless compression" technology). The possibilities of HDR and frame rate control were also expanded — in particular, support for a variable refresh rate was introduced, which had a positive effect primarily on the quality of the picture in "games". The audio part is notable for the update of the ARC audio return channel function (for more details, see "v1.4") — it received support for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X multi-channel codecs.
Note that along with the interface itself, the cable has also been fundamentally updated in this version; so all the features of HDMI v2.1 are available only when using the appropriate "cords".
