SCART is a distinctive large rectangular connector; it's the largest of the connectors used in consumer electronics. The SCART standard describes only the physical structure of the connector and does not have its own signal format. Simply put, various types of signals can be transmitted through this connection — composite video/audio, component video, S-Video, commands for controlling video equipment from a universal remote, etc. However, specifically audio and video signals are transmitted through SCART only in analog format, which is why this connector is sometimes considered outdated. Nevertheless, due to its convenience and versatility, it is still quite widely used.
