MicroUSB is the standard universal connector for most modern smartphones, tablets, and many other types of portable devices. On the other hand, Type C is a type of USB connector, released relatively recently as a potential alternative to both full-sized USB and microUSB. It has compact dimensions (slightly larger than microUSB) and a reversible design — the plug can be inserted into the connector from any side. Additionally, note that the Thunderbolt v3 interface is physically based precisely on the Type C connector.

Cables of this type are mainly intended for connecting portable devices with microUSB connectors to Type C (Thunderbolt v3) ports on computers, laptops, power banks, and other equipment. In turn, adapters usually have a Type C plug and a microUSB socket and are therefore used to connect cables and various devices (such as chargers) with microUSB plugs to equipment equipped with USB-C.
