— adapters with a DisplayPort connector on one side and DVI on the other.DisplayPort is a digital interface initially created for video signals, but relatively recently it has also allowed for audio transmission. In terms of capabilities, this interface is similar to HDMI (see "HDMI – HDMI"), but for various reasons, its primary application is in computer technology: specifically, this connector (and its smaller versions) is standardly used by Apple in its computers as a video output. As for DVI, this standard is also mainly used in computer technology for video; it can provide both digital and analog signal transmission. The two main modern types of DVI — purely digital DVI-D and combined DVI-I — can be either single or dual link, and these types of connectors are not always mutually compatible. So, when purchasing a cable or adapter with a DVI connector, it is advisable to specify the exact type of this connector.
Note that adapters (see "Type") of this format usually have a DisplayPort plug and a DVI socket — that is, they are intended for connecting DVI devices to DisplayPort outputs.
