Don't confuse these devices with data cables (see "SATA – SATA") — in this case, it's solely about providing power to internal drives. As for the connectors themselves, the 4-pin Molex used to be a standard interface in computer power supplies; it's now becoming less common, but the need to power a SATA drive from a Molex output can still arise. Most cables of this type are designed for such situations. Some of them are splitters, allowing you to connect two SATA devices to one Molex connector.
