A long cable, on the one hand, gives more freedom in placing the connected devices, allowing them to be separated over a greater distance. On the other hand, the longer the cable, the greater the likelihood of interference and the lower the signal quality can be (not to mention the fact that the excess can get tangled and look sloppy). Therefore, it is worth choosing the length with some margin, but this margin should not be too large: for example, to connect a medium-sized TV (40") to a player standing next to it, a cable of 1-1.2 m long is usually enough.
