Closing with a door is generally more convenient and practical than a retractable design; for details, see "Bottom (retractable)", But in general, the lower location of the freezer provides some important advantages. Firstly, it allows you to raise the main (refrigeration) chamber above the floor — as a result, the main capacity of the refrigerator is at the optimal height, and a person of average height practically does not have to bend over to access most of the contents. Secondly, the freezer itself can be divided into drawers — they are generally more practical than the shelves used in top-mounted chambers. In light of all this, it is this arrangement that is generally considered the most convenient and is currently the most popular. It is used in most classic and French door refrigerators (see "Product type").

The disadvantage of this option is the need to bend over to access the freezer, but this moment is rarely fundamental.
