— the name of this variety comes from the fact that such refrigerators are equipped with side-by-side doors. At the same time, behind one door is the main chamber, and behind the second is a freezer and additional chambers like a fresh zone (if any). In most Side-by-Side refrigerators, each door occupies the entire height of the unit, however, there are models where two doors are provided on one side, one above the other. But models with 2 pairs of doors (two from below, two from above) have a specific internal layout and already belong to a separate category — French Door (see the relevant paragraph).In general, refrigerators of this type have high capacity — even in the most modest models, the total volume is at least 350 litres, and in the largest models it can exceed 800 litres. A fairly large number of classic refrigerators also fit into this range; the difference is that for a similar capacity, the Side-by-Side will be flatter, wider and slimmer and/or taller than a conventional vertical unit. Thus, this type of refrigerator is intended mainly for spacious kitchens with a lot of free space.
