I liked this phone a year and a half ago because of its small size. However, since I had a wonderful Samsung A3 phone (which still works well), I hesitated to spend 19,000 for the A40. But in October of last year, seeing this phone sold for 13,000 in a citylink store, I bought it without hesitation. I'm satisfied with the purchase. The battery lasts for 3-5 days, depending on usage frequency. The screen is very bright, though the images on the aforementioned A3 are clearer in sunlight. The absence of the Always on Display feature is compensated by the lock screen: double-tap the dark screen to see the battery percentage, current time, missed calls, and messages. And, of course, the screen size is optimal, especially compared to the rest of today's large smartphones. Good model. 4 gig RAM, the device operates quite smoothly. Small size, not a shovel, I can easily manage with one hand, convenient to carry in a pocket. Fast charging. Sufficient amount of internal storage, no need for a card. Weak camera features. The claimed pixels do not necessarily mean good photos. Compact smartphone with large screen
The new Galaxy A40 from Samsung stands out with an unusual screen. With the advent of the frameless era, the 6.2-inch diagonal has become the de facto standard. The A40 has a slightly smaller diagonal, 5.9", which made the smartphone more compact. The feeling of lightness is complemented by a small weight of 140 g — this is definitely one of the lightest devices with an elongated display. In terms of design, the smartphone looks like most of the heroes of today — a drop-cut for the front camera, small frames, a glossy plastic glass cover with an iridescent gradient colour.
Quality AMOLED screen with Full HD resolution
The display resolution remained at the standard level for 6.2 – 6.4 diagonals (2280x1080 pixels), and instead of an IPS matrix, a more expensive AMOLED was used. Therefore, the screen turned out to be excellent even by the standards of much more expensive smartphones. Plus, the AMOLED matrix consumes less energy, so with a 3100 mAh battery, the Galaxy A40 works the same day and a half as smartphones with a more capacious battery.
Exynos 7904 processor
As a motor, the smartphone uses Exynos 7904 and 4 GB of RAM. The computational capabilities of the device are not at the highest level. In benchmarks, the result is almost the same as the Galaxy A30. This means that there is no reserve for the future of smartphone hardware. Games run, but you should not expect flagship performance.
NFC, fast charging and 25 MP selfie camera
I am glad that Samsung did not save on trifles: there is a modern USB-C plus a separate headphone output, there is an NFC module, a fingerprint scanner and fast charging. Plus, Wi-Fi supports 5 GHz, and Bluetooth has the current index 5.0. Well, the tray for SIM-cards / memory cards is separate, not hybrid. Also, the new Galaxy A40 stands out with a good 25-megapixel selfie camera. The main camera is double, all according to the precepts of 2019. The quality of shooting is approximately worth your money — during the day you get very good shots with the right depth and blur, in poor lighting the quality traditionally drops. Sharpness suffers especially.
Smartphone without weaknesses
In general, for its $300 Galaxy A40 looks like a great smartphone. I can't believe that Samsung managed to adapt and succeed in the initial and middle price segment so much. But there is one caveat: by throwing a little on top, we will get powerful competitors in the face of flagships from Xiaomi (Mi 8 is still an excellent smartphone) or the new Huawei Nova 4, which have more powerful hardware, better cameras, and a set of additional goodies in something even more interesting.
