Minimum glare, maximum focus
To ensure a distortion-free image, the EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM lens uses three aspherical elements of two different types, and ED glass prevents chromatic aberration, which reduces the sharpness of the edges of images. In addition, the lens coating reduces ghosting and glare caused by internal reflections. By increasing the power of the focus control group, the minimum focus distance at all focal lengths is 0.28m.
Canon's Electromagnetic Diaphragm provides a more natural look to an out-of-focus image with a circular aperture that smoothes out tonal transitions. And the extra aperture reduces the chance of flare and improves overall image contrast.
