the lens has two built-in light inputs (essentially two lenses).

A very unusual fisheye lens with a "two-eyed" design. The model is sharpened for shooting 3D images and VR content on mirrorless cameras of the Canon RF system. The lens uses two "fish eyes", the distance between the optical axes of which is 60 mm. This corresponds to human interpupillary distance and provides a comfortable parallax for virtual/augmented reality. The viewing angle of each of the "eyes" is about 190 °.

The aperture is adjustable from f/2.8 to f/16. The lens is focused from a distance of 20 cm and only in manual focusing mode. The unique optical design of the Canon 5.2mm f/2.8 L RF is composed of 24 elements in 20 groups (12 elements in 10 groups for each fisheye). The model design includes four extra-low dispersion elements and proprietary lens coatings. The lens belongs to the top line of L (Luxury) optics, which is expressed in the application of a red ring around the frame. The model has a dust and water protection of the case, and a holder for a flat light filter is also provided in its design.
