Second hand

— the presence in watches with an arrow (or combined) dial of a separate hand for counting seconds (in normal, non-stopwatch mode).

Such an arrow significantly improves the accuracy of the time display. In addition, it can be used as an impromptu stopwatch or timer, if formally these functions are absent in the watch. Note that the location of the second hand may be different. The classic option is the installation on the central axis, along with the hour and minute hands; however, in watches with a chronograph (see "Functions"), one of the additional scales is often responsible for counting seconds, and a stopwatch hand is installed on the central axis, which is used only when the chronograph is running.
