Bikes with rear roller brake
Roller
— the design of such brakes provides the presence of a drum with pads located inside. However, unlike coaster brakes, in this case, the control is carried out from the steering wheel, and when the brakes are applied, the pads are pressed against the drum with the help of special rollers, hence the name. The main feature of such systems is that, due to the presence of rollers, it is almost impossible to dead block the bicycle wheel. Due to this, most roller brakes have a function similar to automotive ABS. On the other hand, the same feature has led to the low overall efficiency of such systems, so roller brakes are most often found in urban bikes. Of the other features worth mentioning: on the one hand — high accuracy of operation, protection from the external environment (dirt, snow, etc.) and the ability to work even with a bent rim; on the other hand, high cost, high weight, difficulty in repair and poor compatibility with shock-absorbed suspensions. No offers found
