Mechanical disc

— the action of disc brakes is based on the contact of the pads with a special small-diameter disc rigidly fixed to the wheel axle, and the force from the handle is transmitted to the pads using a flexible rod. The presence of the disk provides significantly better efficiency than in rim systems, as well as complete insensitivity to rim bents. It is necessary to adjust such brakes much less frequently than rim brakes. On the other hand, disk systems are expensive, heavy and quite difficult to repair. However, the performance outweighs many of the disadvantages, and systems of this type are widely used in mid-range and high-end bikes.
