The Noctua NH-D15 Chromax Black is a quiet and high-performance air CPU cooler that is part of Noctua's specialized line of tower super-coolers. It is a successor to the highly popular Noctua NH-D15 model featuring an unusual for the company matte black heatsink and equally black fans. It is positioned as a high-end model for 2019, aimed at experienced users and owners of extremely powerful processors that cannot be adequately cooled by simpler tower coolers.
It is designed for cooling both standard and high-end Intel/AMD processors in both normal and overclocked modes. Equipped with all the mounts for installation with all popular types of processor sockets (Intel 1150/1155/1156/1200/1700 and AMD AM4/AM5). Heat dissipation is achieved through a dual-tower heatsink design, consisting of 45 plates soldered to the tubes with a 2 mm gap.
The total calculated area amounts to an impressive 12600 cm², allowing the dissipation of approximately 220 W of heat from the processor. Two 140-mm Noctua NF-A15 PWM fans with seven-blade impellers are used for silent air dissipation. With PWM control, their speed can vary between 300 to 1500 RPM. Both fans feature Noctua's proprietary SSO2 bearings, which are durable hydrodynamic friction units with magnetic self-stabilization. These are high-quality, long-lasting, and quiet bearings that minimize noise levels even at maximum continuous operation. Finally, it's important to note the large dimensions (height 165 mm) and significant weight (1320 g) of the device, which is crucial to consider when installing in compact PCs and complex systems with a large number of components.

The best cooler for air cooling enthusiasts. A serious item for those who respect their money and components, and don't chase after colorful lights and illumination. What I liked the most is that it eased all worries about leaks. Personally, I'm not a fan of water cooling. So, with my powerful RYZEN 9 processor, the choice was really limited. Either BEQUIET or NOCTUA. If you carefully read the reviews about both, there won't be any doubts. This thing is reliable and it works. What else do you need when you have other expensive components..? (certainly not water tubes and flooding) In fact, there aren't any. However, if you are being very picky, perhaps from an aesthetic point of view, it would be nice for NOCTUA to also create a white version. Again the same old story. The first cooler needs to be made smaller in diameter so that the RAM with a heatsink fits easily. Otherwise, you have to look for low-profile ones or install the green PCB. Darker than the night
Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black is an upgraded version of one of the most efficient CPU air coolers (16.5 cm high, 1.3 kg weight). Compared to the previous "light" version, it compares favorably with its elegant black colour and the guaranteed presence of a mount for the AMD AM4 socket in the kit. The compact Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black tower boasts the same innovations.

The design of the Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black is double-towered: six copper heat pipes connect two arrays of aluminium fins. The bottom fins are smaller than the top ones, thus making room for RAM with tall heatsinks. But one of the two bundled fans can still conflict with the RAM, so we recommend limiting yourself to low-radiator or no-radiator modules at all.

With the Noctua NH-D15 processor, chromax.black contacts through an intermediary plate, polished to a mirror finish. The cooler comes with a tube of branded Noctua NT-H1 thermal paste, famous for one of the highest thermal conductivity on the market. A Y-splitter is also provided to connect two fans to one 4-pin motherboard header, and a pair of LNA resistors to reduce rotational speed and, as a result, noise. And already a traditional screwdriver included.

The noise level even at maximum speed does not exceed a moderate 25 dB. In addition to the aforementioned AMD AM4 platform, it is compatible with AM3+, Intel LGA1151, LGA1150, LGA2011-v3, LGA2066, and more. Only highly specialized AMD Threadripper TR4 processors are not supported, but they require a cooler with a much wider soleplate.
