Mass market leader

The Intel Core i7-6700 is the most powerful mass-market processor (LGA1151 platform), if you don't take into account its more expensive counterpart 6700K, which differs only in a slightly increased frequency and an unlocked multiplier. And the Intel LGA2011-v3 platform still belongs to highly specialized, not mass solutions.

Skylake in all its glory

The Core i7-6700 delivers top performance with the latest Skylake architecture, four physical cores and eight Hyper-Threading threads. The nominal clock frequency is 3.4 GHz, but most of the time the processor runs at Turbo Boost 3.7 GHz, and when loaded on one core, it accelerates to 4 GHz. Manual overclocking is not provided, but with such a high auto overclocking, it is not required.

For maximalists

Before shelling out $350 for a Core i7-6700, you need to clearly answer yourself whether your tasks really need such a powerful and expensive processor, or perhaps you can get by with a cheaper option (Core i3, i5, AMD FX-8000). For professional video editing, the i7-6700 is only needed if you are confident that it will pay off over time. And for a gaming PC, it makes sense to buy it only in a pair of GeForce GTX 980 Ti, GTX 1070, GTX 1080 video cards and bundles of two NVIDIA SLi or AMD CrossFireX video cards. Well, or you just want to build a computer from the most powerful components at the moment, which will not need to be upgraded for many years.
