Model overview based on user reviews
The Intel Core i5 Kaby Lake processors, including models like the i5-7400 and i5-7600K, were once considered ideal for gaming due to their performance and price in 2017. However, by 2020, they have become less competitive, with users noting that they often hit 100% load during gaming, causing micro stutters and making it difficult to run other applications simultaneously. While they maintain good temperature control and can handle basic tasks, they struggle with modern games, especially when paired with higher-end GPUs. For those considering a purchase, alternatives like the Ryzen 5 3600 offer better performance at a similar or lower price. Overall, the i5 Kaby Lake series is seen as outdated and not worth its current price, especially for gaming enthusiasts.

Top for your money even now! Able to rock any game easily
5 October 2020
I still use an excellent stone, I went through all the new items on it, sem 4 resident evil 3 remake, everything flies in combination with the rtx 2060. I don’t have any friezes as they write here, the Stone is shaded with a bang, coupled with a good video camera
Cold pulls everything sow day for 2020
No, taking into account good video
use Intel i5-7600 BOX more than year
Not worth your attention at the moment. If you buy it for 12 thousand maximum.
26 June 2020
I have been using it for more than 3 years, now I am planning to upgrade to i5 10600k. In 2017 and 2018, it was worth the money, but now in 2020, due to great competition, it is better to take a closer look at the Ryzen 5 3600 or AI 5 9600k, their price is 7.5 thousand less and more productive than this percentage.
Price in 2017. At that time, it was the perfect processor for gaming. Cool
In 2020, it's not worth your attention.
Price (price/quality ratio)
It really hits 100 percent load in every game.
It's impossible to work with other programs outside the game.
use Intel i5-7600K BOX more than year
Now it’s not worth considering it as a purchase at all.
30 October 2019
For that kind of money, it's better to consider Ryzen, especially the R5 3600, for the same price.
Basically, there are none.
Doesn't play games, even if it does, it crashes at 100%, which makes it impossible to open other applications, low price/performance

Automatic overclocking

Many people mistakenly consider the Core i5-7400 a weak processor, complaining about its low nominal frequency - only 3 GHz. The next i5-7500 chip in the lineup operates at a frequency of 3.4 GHz, which is significantly higher (plus 400 MHz). But it is more correct to compare not the nominal frequency of processors, but the Turbo Boost frequency for all four cores. For the 7400 it is 3.4 GHz, and for the 7500 it is 3.6 GHz. The advantage of 200 MHz is clearly not worth the overpayment, and the Core i5-7400 is the best choice for your money.

FPS Growth

The integrated Intel HD 630 graphics accelerator has the same 24 micro-cores as the old HD 530, which delivered a reasonable 30 FPS in GTA V, Fallout 4 and Battlefield 1, albeit at 720p with low graphics settings. The transition from DDR4-2133 MHz RAM to a slightly faster 2400 MHz, which is used as video memory in the case of integrated graphics, adds an additional 3-5 FPS.

A vision for the future

Best of all, the Core i5-7400 is suitable for building a gaming PC with a GeForce GTX 1070-level graphics card, the potential of which even an overclocked Core i3 does not reveal. However, even if you buy a simpler graphics card for the first time, still do not be stingy with the i5-7400 so that in the event of a future PC upgrade you do not have to think about replacing the processor.
