The overwhelming majority of Canon's new line of full-frame mirrorless cameras are produced by no means cheap lenses from the top layers of the interchangeable lens society. A pleasant exception to the rule is the Canon RF 24-240mm f/4-6.3 IS USM multi-purpose zoom for shooting the most diverse scenes.
10x optical zoom
The lens fits perfectly with the affordable full-frame Canon EOS RP. However, on other full-frame cameras, it will also look harmonious. A weighty trump card in the sleeve of the model is a 10x optical zoom from 24 to 240 mm. Along with the change in focal length, the lens aperture also changes — from f / 4.0 at the short end to f / 6.3 at the telephoto zoom position. A built-in optical stub with a claimed efficiency of up to 5 stops of shutter speed or exposure is called upon to compensate for a possible lack of aperture.
The nature of the drawing
By the nature of the image, the lens produces a soft image in the wide-angle position and clear images at the long end. At the same time, moderate distortions can be seen on the final frames, which are easily corrected at the stage of post-processing of the footage in a photo editor. In the "middle" focal lengths, neither distortion nor aberration will in any way affect the result. The lens is sharpened from a distance of 50 cm. In automatic mode, the silent ultrasonic Nano USM autofocus motor helps it focus.
Customizable control ring
The model is equipped with a wide zoom ring and a customizable ring closer to the bayonet side of the body. The latter is assigned exposure compensation, shutter speed control, aperture control, or ISO. To complete the picture, the lens lacks only basic protection from adverse weather conditions, because travel photography is one of the main tasks that the Canon RF 24-240mm f / 4-6.3 IS USM “station wagon” is faced with.
