Model overview based on user reviews
The Canon 50mm f/1.4 EF USM lens is highly praised for its excellent aperture of f/1.4, allowing for beautiful background blur and effective low-light performance. Users appreciate its natural color reproduction and sharpness, especially when slightly stopped down. The lens is considered a great value for money, offering a high level of detail and a pleasing bokeh. However, some users have noted issues with chromatic aberrations and the lens's fragile construction, particularly the extending front element. While the autofocus is generally fast and quiet, thanks to the ultrasonic motor, there are occasional reports of focus inaccuracies. Despite these drawbacks, the lens is recommended for portraiture and as a versatile option for both full-frame and APS-C cameras. It is often compared to the Canon 50mm f/1.8, with users noting the f/1.4's superior build and image quality. Overall, it is considered a classic choice for photographers seeking a reliable and high-performing prime lens.

shortcomings are compensated by the hood and excellent price-quality ratio A fairly large hole of 1.4 allows you to blur the background well, natural colors, quite sharp on slightly covered the front lens unit comes out, you are afraid of damaging it |
I bought 2 lenses - 135 f/2 and 50 f/1.4 from Canon at the store FOTOMOST. When I got home and started testing them, I noticed front focus in the 50 f/1.4. The EF 135 turned out to be superb. I called the store and said that I wanted to get the lens adjusted, only to hear that IT'S NOT COVERED BY THEIR WARRANTY!!!!! Adjustment is ON A PAID BASIS!!!!!! I've never heard such nonsense before. Every time I've bought lenses, I've always had them adjusted. Adjustment is a service that falls under warranty. I had to find people who could provide a warranty card from CANON, not FOTOMOST!!!!! I found them, took it to the service center - everything was done under warranty!!! So think about it - if you'll need an adjustment in the future - DON'T buy!!! Prices are good - but later.... luminous power i haven't discovered it yet |
A fabulous lens. I've been using it solely for video shooting on a Canon 7D crop for a year. It always saves the day under any lighting (but with the condition of good stabilization, primes are unbearably sensitive to movement when shooting video). When approached correctly, it is very versatile, although I sometimes need macro or wide-angle, but mostly I use this one. My video example of shooting on Canon 7D + 50mm 1:1.4 in a dark forest and indoors in daylight youtube.com/watch?v=HfhUqQXgqVs the aperture is fantastic! bokeh beauty! if only there was a stabilizer... |
