Despite the growing market share of quad-core and six-core processors, the lion's share of sales remains with dual-core models. They are affordable, support modern standards, high-speed RAM and everything you need for work and, possibly, games. Realizing this, Intel in 2017 updated the Celeron workhorse line with modern architecture and traditionally democratic price tags.

The current family of chips of the eighth series

The Celeron G4900 is the simplest variant of the Coffee Lake die, with a modest two cores and two threads. The operating frequencies of the cores reach 3.1 GHz. As already mentioned, its goal is to occupy a niche in the field of office "calculators", where resource-intensive applications are not used. Moreover, it has a built-in video chip (which means you don't have to buy a graphics card to display an image) and very limited heat dissipation. Intel engineers promise less than 54 W, in fact it is even less — about 30 W, which will clearly appeal to integrator companies.

But it is not designed for modern games at all — 2 physical cores do not fit the gaming standards of 2018-19. On the other hand, the Celeron G4900 will quite work as a temporary plug before buying a more modern chip for Coffee Lake, since the use of the second version of socket 1151 does not promise any problems with this.
