— a diamond, that is, a cut diamond, is perhaps the most famous gemstone, and definitely the most expensive of those used in engagement rings. However in addition to natural ones, there are also synthetic diamonds — they are much cheaper, but, usually, they look no worse (at the same time, you should not confuse such stones with rhinestones and cubic zirkonia — here we are talking about artificially obtained diamonds). Thanks to this, diamond rings can be both very expensive and relatively affordable — although they still cannot be called cheap.

The prestige of diamonds is due to both their value and some properties. Firstly, this stone refracts light very strongly, which gives beautiful iridescent reflections (this is one of the characteristic features of a diamond). The colour of diamonds can be almost any, but they are usually transparent so that the reflections are as bright as possible. Second, it is the hardest of the minerals; this property for some couples may have a symbolic meaning, hinting at the strength of family ties.
