Cubic zirconia

— the material, also known as "zirconium" or "zircon", is zirconium dioxide crystals used as an inexpensive imitation of more valuable materials, including diamonds. Despite the low cost, some cubic zirconias can be distinguished from diamonds only with a fairly close look. This is achieved due to the high refractive index and dispersion of light, due to which such stones give a beautiful shine with iridescent reflections. Thanks to all these features, such inserts are very popular in wedding rings, and not only in low-cost ones (the high cost of a ring with cubic zirkonia is usually explained by a large amount of precious metal in the composition and/or its high breakdown).
