Specifically, 18650 is the most popular of them – due to the excellent balance between performance characteristics and dimensions/weight/cost. In addition, the range of nominal capacity of such batteries is very wide – from 1500 to 3500 mAh, which gives many options for a specific situation and budget. So such batteries are used extremely widely – from flashlights, electronic cigarettes and radio-controlled models to electric scooters and even electric cars.

In cylindrical batteries the five-digit marking directly indicates the dimensions: the first two digits correspond to the diameter in millimeters, and the remaining three correspond to the length in tenths of a millimeter. Accordingly, in this case the thickness is 18 mm, the length is 65 mm. In this case, the presence of a protection board (see “Additional features”) can slightly increase the length (from 1 to 3 mm); however, most often this does not create compatibility problems, and many devices designed for “protected” batteries (for example, mechanical electronic cigarette mods) initially take this point into account in their design.
