The Epson EcoTank MFP line was introduced to the market in 2011 and became the first mass solution from a major manufacturer with a built-in continuous ink supply system as an alternative to traditional cartridges. The main feature of all models in the series is the built-in ink tanks, which are visible from the outside of the casing and are refilled from special container bottles without the need to purchase and replace disposable cartridges. This approach allows for significant savings on consumables, especially when it comes to regularly printing large volumes of photos or documents.

All printers and MFPs in the EcoTank series use Micro Piezo inkjet printing technology, which does not require heating the print head before operation. As a result, the devices consume less electricity (an average of 12 W in active mode), hardly heat up, and can operate even from an uninterruptible power supply. The manufacturer emphasizes that the print head in the EcoTank is designed for the entire lifespan of the printer. Most models in the lineup operate on water-soluble four-color, and less frequently six-color, inks that are suitable for both document and photo printing. Thanks to the high resolution (5760x1440 dpi in most models), printed photos come out clear and well-detailed.

The Epson EcoTank model range includes solutions for home, office, and photo studios. Affordable home MFPs are most often equipped with a basic ink set designed to print up to 7,500 color and 4,500 black and white A4 pages. More expensive office-class options usually have a double set of containers, support Ethernet network connection, have an automatic document feeder, and support fax mode. Many of them are also equipped with built-in displays. Meanwhile, models for photo studios are similar to office versions but use an extended palette of 6 colors instead of 4. Almost all modern EcoTank models support wireless connection via Wi-Fi and printing from mobile devices.
