The Epson Expression MFPs are positioned by the manufacturer as ideal assistants for people who need a versatile and affordable printer "for a bit of everything," but with a focus on image quality. The main technological feature of the series is the use of the proprietary Epson Micro Piezo printhead, which does not heat the ink during printing like other printheads, but "ejects" it with electric pulses. This is not just a technical nuance: the absence of heat ensures high device durability and allows the use of different types of Claria inks, which dry instantly and do not fade for years.

The line is conditionally divided into two levels. Simpler models like the Expression Home XP-3200 can be called versatile soldiers with classic pigment printing for documents and water-soluble colored inks for photos. For the demanding audience, more advanced Expression Premium MFPs are prepared with an additional fifth cartridge that enhances contrast and color depth. At the same time, all Epson Expression models can print borderlessly, handle thick photo paper, and easily fit on a bookshelf or in the corner of a desk, transforming from a regular scanner into a full-fledged home photo lab.

Considering modern realities, most Epson Expression MFPs are maximally "friendly" with smartphones. With the Epson Smart Panel app, you can not only print but literally manage the printer: for example, check ink levels, scan documents directly to your phone, or create creative collages. The higher-end models also please with automatic duplex printing, bright touch screens, and SD card slots for printing from cameras without the need to turn on a computer.
