TVs with Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi
— wireless technology that can be used in two ways: to connect to computer networks and to connect directly to other wireless gadgets. Usually, modern TVs allow both applications, but there are exceptions; this information, as well as the rest of the functionality of the Wi-Fi connection, should be specified separately.Here are more specific uses for Wi-Fi on TVs (the most popular ones):
— Internet access for working with multimedia services, communicating via Skype, surfing the web, etc.
— Playback of content from the local network (for example, from the hard drive of a PC or laptop, see "DLNA support");
— Broadcasting images from smartphones, tablets and other gadgets to the TV using Miracast technology (see the relevant paragraph) or Wi-Di (in some models, broadcasting from the TV to an external device is also possible).
— Connecting a portable gadget as a remote control.
Note that the specific Wi-Fi version supported by the TV may vary. Wi-Fi 5 support is highly desirable for watching 4K video; models with this feature are also placed in a separate selection filter, in which this standard is also described in detail.
