A family of high-quality, but not too expensive 4K LED TVs from Sony. All representatives of this series are equipped with high-quality LCD displays with a fixed 4K resolution and FALD-backlight (note: occasionally Direct LED), a large selection of diagonals, a 120 Hz refresh rate, full support for HDR10 and Dolby Vision video formats, the ability to broadcast images from mobile gadgets and advanced voice control. Thanks to its moderate cost and modern hardware platform, a TV from the X85/X90 series will equally successfully play the role of a home multimedia and entertainment system, a screen in a home theater or a TV for games.

The brain in the TV panels of this series is either the Sony X1 processor, well known to fans of the brand, or the more advanced Cognitive XR chip. Both are equipped with proprietary algorithms for equalizing and optimizing the color palette, can scale the original resolution of videos to 4K, and also have a trick called MotionFlow. Using several algorithms, this feature compares key image components in successive frames, then calculates the missing motion phases and completes the necessary frames, thereby increasing the clarity and smoothness of moving objects. The difference is that Cognitive XR uses more advanced image optimizers that simulate how human vision works.

The X85J line is very diverse, so you can easily find both a compact 43-inch TV and a monstrous TV panel with an 83-inch display on sale. All of them are equipped with a pair of built-in stereo speakers with a power of 20 W with support for Dolby Atmos and DTS virtual sound. Mandatory program items include support for AirPlay/Miracast/Chromecast, a remote control with a separate button to call the voice assistant, and a large number of audio/video/USB ports, including the current version of HDMI 2.1. The latter fact will certainly appeal to owners of the new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles, which will be able to transmit video signals in the “4K + 120 Hz + HDR” mode without any sacrifices to the Japanese or Californian gods.
