Confident work on mistakes
After releasing the experimental Odyssey Ark multi-monitor, the Korean giant Samsung worked on the mistakes and presented the second generation in the winter of 2024. Like its predecessor, the Ark 2nd Gen is based on the top 10-bit VA matrix, but this time it uses an advanced mini-LED backlight with local dimming and a peak brightness of 600 nits. The screen diagonal is an impressive 55 inches with a 4K resolution, a refresh rate of 165 Hz and a response time of 1 ms (GtG). The display has a curvature radius of 1000R, has 95% coverage of the DCI P3 color triangle and has support for HDR10+ Gaming mode with AMD FreeSync Premium Pro technology.
Smart TV and the ability to display images from 4 different sources
In addition to the screen, Samsung engineers have improved the Multi-View mode: using one DisplayPort 1.4 video port and three HDMI (two of which are version 2.1), you can simultaneously display images from 4 sources on the monitor. Or switch the Odyssey Ark 2 to a multi-window mode with four different working screens, be it browser tabs, a YouTube window, a text editor or a code console. The screen itself can be adjusted in height and tilt, and also switched to portrait mode. Add to this the ability to use the monitor in smart TV mode with the Tizen shell, excellent speakers with a subwoofer (total power of 60 W) and Dolby Atmos support, and you get a multifunctional hybrid of a monitor and TV, on which it is equally convenient to play, work and watch movies.
Great, but still not perfect multi-monitor
Despite the many improvements of the second generation Odyssey Ark, it is worth noting some minor shortcomings. For example, text on 55 inches does not look as sharp as on smaller 4K monitors. The monitor itself is quite bulky and may not fit on a standard desk. Well, and the depth of curvature is 1000R, which, judging by the reviews, may be too aggressive for some players. However, this is rather an amateur, and there are enough enthusiastic reviews on the network about such an enhanced immersion effect. Well, the USB hub contains only 2 ports, and both are the outdated 2.0 version.
