10 physical cores, 16 virtual threads

The Intel Core i5-14400 processor is an updated version of last year's i5-13400, offering higher clock speeds at a similar price. The Raptor Lake Refresh architecture improves overall performance while maintaining high energy efficiency. This processor has a hybrid structure that includes 6 high-performance and 4 energy-efficient cores, which allows it to process up to 16 data threads simultaneously.

Optimal performance for demanding games

The energy-efficient cores operate at 1.8 GHz and are designed to handle less resource-intensive tasks, while the P-cores are activated under higher loads, accelerating up to 4.7 GHz. In addition, the processor includes an Intel GNA neural module, which is responsible for specialized tasks related to artificial intelligence and machine learning. In games, the i5-14400F shows excellent results, especially when combined with powerful graphics cards such as the GeForce RTX 4070, which helps avoid a performance bottleneck. Among the closest competitors of the Intel Core i5-14400F from the “red” camp, we can highlight the AMD Ryzen 5 7600X and Ryzen 7 5700X.

Stock fan is noisy and not powerful enough

The only drawback of this model is the stock fan. Intel decided to follow AMD's example and now equips its processors with inexpensive coolers that are capable of effective cooling only in the basic mode with a declared power consumption of 65 W. However, with full auto overclocking to 4.7 GHz, heat generation increases to almost 150 W, and the cooler does not cope with its task, creating a noticeable noise.
