A close relative of the flagship Huawei Honor 20 is its twin brother in terms of the outer “wrapper”, but slightly relined inside. The front panel of the glass body of the device is occupied by a 6.26-inch IPS screen, “perforated” in the upper left corner for the needs of a 32 MP front camera. The main camera of Huawei Nova 5T has a “quad” prefix – under its wing, 48 + 16 + 2 + 2 MP image sensors are combined (leading, wide-angle, depth sensor and macro module, respectively).
The smartphone holds a high performance bar thanks to a powerful hardware base, which is based on the flagship homegrown HiSilicon Kirin 980 chipset. Together with it, 6 GB of RAM and ARM Mali-G76 MP10 graphics work side by side. For the sake of mobile gamers, the smartphone has acquired GPU Turbo 3.0 technology at its disposal. In addition, the smartphone was equipped with a side fingerprint sensor (in the power button), an NFC chip and support for fast “refueling tanks” (22.5 W) of a 3750 mAh battery (50% charge in half an hour at the outlet).
Every soldier dreams of becoming a general
The Huawei Nova line was introduced to the public back in 2016. Since then, she has already managed to get to the fifth serial number and win a certain respect from buyers who do not have enough low-cost Honor handsets, but do not need the excessive bells and whistles of flagship Huawei models. The most relevant representative of this family is Huawei Nova 5T, which recently arrived on the shelves of east european stores.
Near-top processor Kirin 980
For $400, the potential buyer was offered virtually a full hardware, which is usually found in much more expensive smartphones from the company. The device received a near-top Kirin 980 processor, 6 GB of RAM, 128 GB of internal storage, many cameras for all occasions, a capacious battery, fast charging and an excellent IPS screen with a resolution of 2340x1080 and natural colour reproduction, which will surely appeal to opponents of overly colorful AMOLED screens . It is a pleasure to use it, the system flies, applications instantly start and switch, 99% of games are pulled without problems at high graphics settings. The only unpleasant surprise was the heating of the device under load, after 40 minutes of playing Tanks and mobile Mortal Kombat, the case of Nova 5T got so hot that I wanted to put it aside for a couple of minutes. This is a notable drawback if you like mobile games.
Great camera with 4 modules
The Nova 5T camera was made on the principle that the more modules, the better. There are four of them here: normal, wide-angle, blur module and macro module. The quad camera takes great pictures that fall slightly short of the Huawei P30. You can only find fault with the not the best quality of night shots, always-on HDR and macro quality. The 2MP sensor resolution is not enough at all, so cropped shots from the main camera usually look better than shots taken with a macro lens. As for HDR and night mode, these issues are likely to be fixed with a firmware update.
Gentleman's set
In terms of additional functions, we did not find any compromises: there is NFC, fast charging, modern wireless interfaces and a well-assembled metal and glass case with a fashionable gradient fill. Of the interesting chips, the front camera embedded in the display and an unusual fingerprint scanner, which is built into the power button on the side face, stand out. It turned out really convenient, Huawei did not lie. However the first couple of days will take some getting used to. Otherwise, there are a couple of unpleasant moments in terms of functionality: Huawei decided to remove a separate audio output and a memory card tray, so you will have to limit yourself to wireless headphones and the available 128 GB. But even taking them into account, we got an extremely interesting mid-range device, which in most scenarios is in no way inferior to smartphones with a price tag 2 times higher.
