A slightly simplified and more affordable version of the Nothing Ear TWS headphones from 2024. The modification with the (a) prefix has a plastic driver instead of an emitter with ceramic inclusions, there is no support for the LHDC 5.0 codec (but there is compatibility with LDAC), and they saved a little on the charging case. In terms of the general nature of the sound and the operation of active noise reduction, Nothing Ear (a) are almost no different from the older model.
The headphones produce detailed sound, dense bass and well-developed high frequencies. In the Nothing X smartphone app, you can adjust the equalizer for lows, mids and highs. The main feature of the headphones is the ability to communicate not just with a voice assistant, but with the ChatGPT AI chatbot. One full charge provides about 5.5 hours of headphone operation with active noise reduction enabled and up to 10 hours of listening to music without using the ANC function. The case with a partially transparent cover allows you to increase the battery life to 24 and 42 hours, respectively. By the way, the case for modification (a) is not waterproof and does not support wireless charging. But the headphones themselves have IP54 protection.

Original design
The Nothing Ear (a) wireless earphones, launched by a company founded by a former OnePlus executive, stand out for their affordable price tag and unusual design. This model is available in three colors, including bright yellow, and attracts attention with transparent elements of the earphones and charging case, through which the internal parts are visible, which gives the device a futuristic look. The earphones weigh about 5 g each, they sit comfortably in the ears and do not fall out, even during active sports. The case fits easily in your pocket. The earphones are protected from moisture according to the IP54 standard, although the case has a more modest IPX2 protection, so it is better to keep it away from water.
Unlike many models, Nothing Ear (a) do not respond to touches and swipes, although they support touch control. To control, you need to squeeze the "legs" of the headphones - this way you can pause the music, switch tracks or turn on / off noise cancellation. There is also an auto pause when you remove the headphones.
Sound and noise reduction
The headphones are equipped with 11-millimeter drivers and support the LDAC codec for high-quality sound reproduction. The equalizer has a low-frequency adjustment, which adds depth to the bass. The sound of the headphones is high-quality, although the low frequencies remind you that this is a mid-range model.
Useful features include Multipoint for connecting to two devices simultaneously, three microphones in each earbud for noise cancellation during calls, and a gaming mode to minimize lag. The ANC system allows you to completely isolate yourself from surrounding sounds or turn on a transparent mode to hear surrounding signals. Adaptive mode adjusts to the environment, adjusting the degree of noise cancellation.
Chat GPT integration
An interesting feature is the integration with Chat GPT: you can find out exchange rates, recipes or cryptocurrency forecasts. Although the accuracy of the answers is not guaranteed, the function is available exclusively on Nothing smartphones.
In terms of battery life, the headphones last up to 9.5 hours on a single charge or 42.5 hours with the case if noise cancellation is disabled. With ANC activated, the operating time is reduced to 5.5 and 24.5 hours, respectively. Wireless charging is not supported, but there is a fast charge: 10 minutes provide 10 hours of listening.
