Vocoder
— a device that allows you to combine the voice of the performer and the sound of another instrument in a special way: the sound of the instrument is the main (carrier) signal, and the performer's voice is modulating. With the help of a vocoder, you can achieve various interesting effects: a “cybernetic” voice, a “speaking” instrument, polyphony accompanying the main part, etc. And some models of synthesizers even allow you to use not the voice, but the sound of another instrument as a modulating signal, which further expands the capabilities of the vocoder. Vocoders are very popular in electronic music (they are familiar to many, for example, from the vocal parts in the compositions of the Daft Punk group), although this function is quite applicable in other genres.Show
