GEL (filled with gel)

— a type of lead-acid battery that uses a gel electrolyte. GEL batteries are best suited for cyclic operation — that is, when the battery needs to power a load for an extended period, discharge almost to zero, then recharge and again provide long-lasting autonomous power. However, for standby mode, in which most UPS systems operate (standing ready for a long time to briefly support power supply in the event of a power outage), this technology is not well suited for several reasons. Therefore, it makes sense to purchase such batteries only in cases where the UPS needs to be activated almost daily — for example, in unstable networks with constant and prolonged power outages.
