Bass reflex

— cases with a phase inverter — a device in the form of a tube connecting the inner volume of the case with the surrounding space. The length of the tube is chosen so that a signal comes out of the outlet, inverted in phase relative to the signal from the front of the diffuser. This has a positive effect on the power and saturation of the sound, especially at low frequencies. On the other hand, this feature affects the cost and dimensions of the speakers; and in some situations, the bass reflex can create additional noise associated with the movement of air through the tube.

Note that in multi-channel speakers of 5.0 or 5.1 format (see “Number of channels”), the front speakers are mainly equipped with a phase inverter: they have both the largest dimensions and the highest requirements for power and sound saturation. Also, this function is often found in the central column, but in the rear channels it has not received distribution.
