At the end of 2019, Western Digital launched the new rugged My Passport Go SSD, which offers massive storage in a stylish, rugged design. Available in two colours (yellow and blue), this external SSD is stylish and easy to use and will be a reliable companion during guest gaming sessions or traveling. It works on the basis of a modern type of 3D TLC NAND memory, the disk capacity is 500 GB. According to the passport, the disk provides approximately the same read and write speeds — 540 MB / s and 430 MB / s, respectively. In reality, the numbers are almost the same.

Cable holder

WD My Passport Go connects to a computer using a USB port version 3 (and USB 2.0 compliant). The cable length in the kit is only 5 cm and this is the most controversial point of this review. The cable was specially shortened so that it could be hidden in a small holder on the back of the case. The problem is that 5 cm is very small and the drive has to be placed right next to the USB port. And this is not always possible. Especially if we are not talking about the console, but the PC case, which is hidden under the table. Therefore, we would advise you to immediately buy a second additional cable in case the main one is not enough.

Five-year warranty and proprietary software package

Now about bonuses. WD promises that My Passport Go will withstand drops up to 2 metres. The case is covered with a layer of protective plastic, which, on the one hand, does not feel as great in the hands as it looks from the outside, but on the other hand, it is reliably protected from scratches and bumps. After several weeks of carrying it in a backpack with keys, other electronics and sports equipment, not a single scratch appeared on it. If you plan to regularly carry it with you, such protection will definitely not be superfluous. The second bonus is the traditionally powerful WD Discovery software package, which allows you to set up automatic data copying, restore lost files, etc. Bonus number three is an extended five-year warranty.
