How to choose the right SSDChoosing an SSD with the required speed and good reliability for home, work and gaming
Modern flash drive) And the speed is probably faster than any conventional SSD
16 December 2019
It's amazing how technology is developing. Literally 5 years ago, I bought an internal 64GB SSD for my PC to install the OS on it and was happy to pay about 100 bucks for it. At that time, the write speed was around 250 MB/s. Now I have a 'flash drive' that practically looks like a regular USB flash drive. I have no complaints about the read and write speeds. Transferring video files takes seconds, photos - a bit longer. The average write speed is around 470-480 MB/s, and the read speed is up to 540 MB/s. It's like space tech, no less. And it even looks great; holding it in my hand makes me internally happy for owning such a drive. Initially, it came with file encryption software, but I don't need it since I'm not a secret agent, just a photographer/videographer. I'm extremely satisfied. The price is a bit steep, but it pays off quickly.
Work speed. Appearance. Compact and lightweight.

Secure SSD for those who are always on the go

The SanDisk Extreme Portable is a fast and secure external SSD designed for photographers and other media professionals who travel a lot and want to keep their data secure while on the go. The case of the Extreme Portable looks good and is made mainly of rubberized plastic with a pleasant texture. The rugged housing provides resistance to drops, dust and unwanted vibrations. According to the passport, the protection class is IP55.

High copy speed

The drive itself uses the once popular type of TLC memory, which was forced out of the market in the last year by cheaper 3D TLC NAND. The volume of the disk is 250 GB, of which a little less than 240 GB is available to the user, and the rest of the volume forms a service area and is used by the controller firmware to store the repeater table, checksums, and other things. According to the passport, the disk provides the same read and write speed of 550 MB / s, which is quite good for its price. In reality, when linearly copying large files, the speed will drop slightly to 407 MB / s when reading and 389 MB / s when writing.

Encrypt like a pro

Of the pleasant features, we highlight the proprietary SanDisk SecureAccess software, which helps to quickly backup data, archive it or encrypt it. In the latter case, everything is especially interesting, since not the entire disk can be encrypted, but only the necessary part of it. For example, you need to give your partner a pack of RAW sources, and a lot of personal information remains on the disk. In order not to transfer personal data from place to place, with SanDisk SecureAccess you can create a separate vault with 128-bit AES encryption inside the disk, and hide the necessary information there as if in a safe. On the one hand, there is nothing new in such things, but it is in the software from SanDisk that everything is done as clearly and humanly as possible.
