Eternal classic

The Patriot Burst Elite is one of the most affordable SSDs on the market. Made in the classic 2.5-inch format with a SATA 3 interface, which makes it suitable for both building a new and upgrading an old PC. Made of metal, which contributes to efficient heat dissipation — even with prolonged load, it does not warm up above 45 °C.

Disc heart

Under the hood of the Patriot Burst Elite is the SM2259XT controller. This is Silicon Motion's latest SATA solution, supporting both the old 3-bit TLC flash and the new 4-bit QLC. And the XT index means the inability to work with an external operational buffer, but the presence of a small integrated cache.

Electronic lottery

The type of flash memory used in the Patriot Burst Elite, like other low-cost SSDs, can vary. In small capacity models (120 – 480 GB) with only one chip, extremely fast TLC is used. Whereas in the 960 GB and 1.92 TB versions, due to the parallelization of recording on several chips, both TLC and, theoretically, slow QLC can be used.

Overfulfilled promises

In fact, the speed of the Patriot Burst Elite is even higher than that claimed by the manufacturer. Instead of 450 and 320 Mbps sequential read and write, we get 550 and 470 Mbps, respectively. The volume of the virtual SLC array is approximately 25% of the free disk space. After its one-time overflow, the disk needs time to recover.
