High reading speed. Compatible with MacBook.
May vary with different memory and controller: Phison PS3111-S11-13 for Micron/Toshiba TLC or Silicon Motion SM2259XT2 for Kioxia QLC.

Inexpensive consumer SSD drive in a standard form factor 2.5" with SATA 3 interface. Positioned as a product of the basic price category designed to equip personal computers and laptops. The main advantage of the device is a high read / write speed and the ability to quickly access any data. In these key parameters, the Kingston A400 SA400S37 / 240G SSD is ten times superior to the most performant models of consumer HDD devices, which has the most positive effect on overall performance.

The HDD allows you to speed up the loading of your existing operating system, applications and games. Increases overall responsiveness and reduces the response time to user actions. It is also worth noting the shock/vibration resistance and high energy efficiency of Kingston SSDs, which consume 4-8 times less energy than hard drives. The basis of the drive is the popular Phison PS3111-S11 controller, which works in conjunction with Micron or Toshiba 3D TLC NAND flash memory. The claimed write resource of the device is 80 TB, which is enough to record 20 GB of data daily for more than 10 years.

I can advise anyone who is short on money.
8 May 2021
I bought it in Moscow for 2500 tugriks for 240GB for Windows and a couple of games, results: reading 353Mb/s, writing 196Mb/s, this is taking into account that the SSD is dirty with two games, namely Fall 4 and Cyberpunk, naturally the read and write speeds will be like that lower case, nothing surprising. So far I’m happy with everything, three years should be enough, if you’re not happy with the results, it’s better to immediately look towards M2 NVME, well, what you pay for is what you get. I'll continue to drive, I'll add a review, so far the flight is normal.
Relatively fast, perfect for upgrading old bakeries.

Now for Apple

Kingston A400 is one of the cheapest SSDs in east european retail. He came to replace the UV400 model and turned out to be better in some ways, worse in some ways. An indisputable advantage is the transition from the Marvell controller to Phison, thanks to which the disk became compatible, among other things, with Apple MacBook laptops (unless, of course, a particular model has a 2.5-inch disk format, and not M.2).

Savings on operating

Another thing is that in order to save money, the Phison S11 low-cost controller was chosen with its own small RAM cache — only 32 MB. For comparison, the old Kingston UV400, as well as modern slightly more expensive SSDs on SMI controllers, have a separate 256-512 MB RAM chip. As a result, the A400 can process fewer small files (temporary files of the operating system and web browser) at the same time than its competitors.

For many years

The choice in favor of cheap TLC flash memory with three bits per cell was not surprising. For low-cost and even many mid-price SSDs, this has long become the standard. Its real durability turned out to be significantly higher than predicted, which allows you not to think about replacing the SSD for at least four to five years.

Number scams

But note that the average sequential write speed of TLC memory outside the virtual SLC array (cells are programmatically combined by three) is much less than the peak one: only 70 versus 350 MB / s. And the SLC array of the A400, like other SSDs on the Phison S11, is small — only 4 GB for the 256 GB model. When copying large files (movies, games), the speed will sag. The write speed is consistently high — 500 MB / s. Given these nuances, we can only recommend Kingston A400 for purchase to picky PC users, for whom saving money is more important than speed.
