Longja

— personal tether (self-belay lanyard) from the harness to the belay point, allowing you to safely "clip in" at a station, on a ledge, or when working with your hands without constantly holding onto the rope. It's made single or double, sometimes adjustable in length, for convenience when standing at a station and moving between points. The key idea is personal positioning, not station construction. If compared to a similar attachment, a lanyard made of dynamic rope is usually softer in case of a jerk and forgives mistakes better than a webbing lanyard, but the webbing is more compact and precise in length. Examples include clipping into the station before rappelling, changing over at an intermediate platform, securing on the ropes when setting up a crossing, or waiting for a partner.
