Inertialess reels

 

— a distinctive feature of this type of reel is the location of the spool — its axis of rotation is directed along the rod (whereas the axis of rotation of the handle is across). This allows you to leave the reel stationary when unwinding the line, which ensures ease of use: there is practically no inertia when casting and the likelihood of tangling is minimal. Another advantage is protection against line breaks — in the form of a friction brake. Many varieties of inertialess coils are produced, with different specializations — “power”, high-speed, etc. In general, such models have good performance characteristics at a relatively low cost, due to which they are widely used. Among the shortcomings of this option, one can only single out the complexity of the design and somewhat less reliability than that of fly fishing.
