Gaffs for fishing

Gaff

— a long handle with a metal hook at the end, essentially a "hook on a stick," which helps pull in and lift large fish onto the shore or boat. It is designed for unloading heavy fish in challenging conditions (high bank, steep slope, boat without a large landing net), but it's important to understand that this is a damaging tool, so it is more often used when the fish is not planned to be released. Thus, when catching a catfish from a high bank, the gaff helps lift the trophy when the landing net is too small or out of reach.
