Whips

Quivertips (whips)

— an element of equipment used in fishing on a feeder — a bottom feeder with hooks. With such fishing, a float is not used; instead, it is the quivertip that is responsible for signaling a bite — a thin and flexible tip of the rod that reacts even to small twitches of the feeder. Modern quiver types are made removable and can have different stiffness; this allows you to use a whole set of interchangeable whips with one rod, choosing them according to the characteristics of the tackle (the heavier the feeder, the stiffer the whip should be). In addition, with a sharp jerk, it is more likely that the tip will break, and the rod will remain intact, and it will not have to be changed entirely.

Note that you should not confuse such products with rod tips in the general sense of the word (see "Tips for a rod") — quiver types have their own specifics and they are usually distinguished into a separate category

Separately, it is worth touching on the colour marking of the whips. Initially, such devices were painted in various bright colours only in order to make them more visible against the background of the water. However, nowadays some manufacturers choose a colour depending on the rigidity of the tip. The standard order used by most major brands is (hard to soft): red, orange, yellow, green, white. On the other hand, this marking is not generally accepted: some companies use a different order of shades, or even choose colours at random, without any system. So when choosing whips for stiffness, you should rely on a colour designation only if such a designation is expressly stated by the respective brand.
