Digital night vision devices
— according to the principle of operation, digital night vision devices are very similar to video cameras: they are equipped with digital matrices (sensors) and electronics that convert the signal from the matrix into an image visible to the operator on a small screen in the eyepiece. At the same time, the sensors have high sensitivity and are able to respond not only to weak visible light, but also to near-IR radiation, which provides night vision. The main advantages of digital devices over image intensifier tubes are the abundance of additional functions and (in most cases) the possibility of using even during the day, because the sensitivity of the matrix can be easily reconfigured. On the other hand, they are noticeably more expensive, other things being equal.
