Wi-Fi equipment with external antennas
External antennas
— devices with at least one external Wi-Fi antenna.Such antennas are considered more advanced than internal ones — primarily due to the fact that they are usually mounted on swivel mounts. In fact, this means that the antenna can be deployed to the optimal (usually vertical) position in almost any position of the device itself. In addition, external antennas are easier to make large and, therefore, effective. The disadvantages of such designs are mainly some bulkiness and greater sensitivity to damage than internal antennas; however, these moments are critical mainly during storage/transportation.
Note that in some devices, external antennas are made removable, which provides a number of advantages (for more details, see "removable antennas").
