Buffering (registered)

— buffering (registered) This feature means that the memory is equipped with an additional buffer between the controller and the storage units. This feature significantly reduces the load on the controller and improves overall reliability. On the other hand, buffered ("registered") memory is slightly slower than non-buffered memory and also more expensive. Therefore, it makes sense to pay attention to such modules only in cases where the above-mentioned reliability is the main priority (in particular, buffered RAM is quite often used in servers). Note that registered memory cannot be used simultaneously with non-buffered memory.
