Active speakers
— speakers equipped with their own power amplifier — most often built-in (although in some models this unit may look like a separate device, and the speakers themselves can be used separately as passive if desired).
Such acoustics are as simple as possible to connect: a line-level signal is sufficient for its operation, and the user does not need to bother with the selection of an amplifier. On the other hand, many connoisseurs of high-quality sound prefer to choose the components of the system (including the power amplifier) at their discretion. Therefore, active speakers nowadays are produced, although a lot, but still less than passive ones.
