The ability to read such discs in a CD player usually involves at least playing DVD-Audio, and in models with MP3 / WMA support, playing these files from DVD media. Features of MP3 and WMA are described in the relevant paragraph; as for DVD-Audio, this format surpasses CD-Audio in bit depth and sampling rate (providing more accurate sound transmission) and allows you to record both stereo and 5.1 multi-channel audio, and the sound duration of one disc can be much longer. However, for a number of reasons, this standard has not been widely adopted.
