Vertical loading CD players
— in top-loading models, the opening through which the optical disc is loaded into the drive is located on the top panel of the player. Accordingly, there must be a fairly large free space above such a player — otherwise it will be very difficult, if not impossible, to load (let alone remove) the disc. This greatly complicates installation in racks, narrow spaces between shelves, etc. However vertical loading systems are considered somewhat more reliable than frontal ones — due to the absence of retractable trays or other similar mechanisms that can fail; however, considering the general quality of modern Hi-Fi and Hi-End equipment, this difference is so insignificant that it can be ignored. In fact, the only advantage of this option is the original appearance that distinguishes the player from similar models; Therefore, vertical loading is not particularly popular.
